Mysore, the second-largest city (890,000 people) in Karnataka state, is also considered to be the second-cleanest city in India. It’s known as a center for silk, sandalwood, and incense. One of the two main sights is the magnificent Maharaja’s Palace originally built in the 14th century, and rebuilt in its current style in 1912 after many reconstructions over the years including a major fire in 1897. The interior is designed in Indo-Saracenic style with opulent columns and arches, intricately carved Burmese teak wood doors, stained glass, mirrors, and epic paintings of historical battle scenes. Unfortunately, photography is not allowed inside. The second, Devaraja Market, in the center of the city, is where you can find everything from kitchen appliances to colored powders (kumkum) to fruits and flowers.

Happy New Year! I’m wondering which city is the cleanest if this is the second cleanest city in India. Which is more impressive to you, the Maharaja Palace or the Taj Mahal?
Yes, I wondered that too–I haven’t found which city is regarded as the cleanest.
The Maharaja Palace is amazing–probably the most beautiful palace I’ve seen in India. But, nothing compares to the Taj (which is a mausoleum, not a palace)!
