Hampi

Hampi Temple

Hampi, in the north of Karnataka state, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a beautiful laid-back tourist stop. It’s situated in an agricultural landscape with fields of sugarcane, banana trees, and rice paddies–the three main crops. It’s known for the complex of temple ruins built around 1400. Many of the 83 monuments feature sculptures of Hanuman, the mythological monkey god, whose birthplace is said to be Hampi. Thus, it is considered to be a holy place.

About admin

I've been fascinated by world cultures all my life. I tried to teach myself Spanish at age 9, but that didn't work so well. I voraciously read books on all areas of the world as a teenager. I grew up to study languages and cultures in college, and have travelled in over 50 countries exploring what is unique and essential to each culture.
